Game of Queens

The extraordinary story of the 16th-century female monarchs, consorts, and regents who wielded power in England, Scotland, and France, and the complex relations between these 3 kingdoms.

Daughters, wives and mothers of Kings, this ‘monstrous regiment of women’ found themselves carving out new roles as rulers and diplomats in a world fractured by the Reformation into powerful religious and dynastic factions.

A riveting narrative illustrated by Music by Attaignant, Arbeau, Bataille, Caccini, Dowland and Guedron, readings from contemporary correspondence, as well as the sonnets and speeches of Shakespeare.
